Joe,

We are both from around the same area, and since you have are thinking of moving here, I will give you a suggestion.

Seeing how you are from such a rural area, moving into the heart of Charlotte suburbia might be a shock to the senses to you. I am from upstate NY/Western MA, then lived in three major cities - but was totally drained of spirit in the suburban sprawl down here - and coming from a really nice rural enviroment like VT, it might be a tough adjustment for you too.

Anyway, what I suggest for you is to take a trip down here and look around for a day or two if you can. I think you might be better off in one of those outer lying towns a bit away from true Charlotte suburbia like Huntersville - coming from Vermont. There is some nice countryside out there. Just a guess from my perspective - seeing how we grew up in the same neck of the woods, but who knows - you might like the change of convienance of having 10 supermarkets within 5 minutes drive. Your wife probably will........ and hey with the two babies you mentioned in your other post, you may be running to the grocery store often... so... I guess what I'm trying to say is.... ah heck... you better move to Huntersville.

Ha ha... nah, good luck to you - just check out some of the outer towns that aren't too far from Charlotte...and still within a commuting distance.

Default Berkshires,

Thanks for your reply! I haven't spent all of my life in the woods, I lived on Long Island from 10 to 12 years old, several years in Groton, Ct. while I was in the Navy and then 3 years in downtown Burlington, Vt., so I am familiar with that setting, but prefer someplace quiet. I am just looking for an apartment for now, but hope to buy something in a few years if all goes well. That will give me time get to know the area once I am down there and make a better decision.

MDreplant,
My wife and I just sold our house in Huntersville and moved into Camden Sedgebrook 3 days ago, while waiting for our new home in Fort Mill to be completed. Obviously, going from a house to an apartment stinks, but we've been very happy with Camden Sedgebrook. The location is great and the soundproofing between units is very good. With a six month old son that sleeps lightly, we didn't want to have to deal with loud noises from the outside or from neighbors. If you're looking for a contact, Albert from the front office is excellent to work with.

Question Mecklenburg schools

I am very new to the area, and I am looking for a place near a HS with strong acedemics and basketball program. I have heard about the "infamous" Charlotte/Mecklenberg schools, but nothing in any kind of detail. Do you know some of the problems they are having? Is it system wide, or a few schools with problems? Thanks inadvance.

Huntersville is a great town to raise a family in. Quiet for the most part, crime is very low, and close enough to commute into Charlotte. Only downsides I could see is CMS (Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools) and traffic at times. Other towns around Lake Norman are Cornelius, Davidson, and Mooresville.

xray: Yes, we signed a 3 month lease. Plus, they allow pets. Short leases, allowing pets and a decent place at a good price can be a pretty tough combination to find.

The new house is coming along well. We've got about two and half months to go. We close on the sale of our Monteith Park home this AM at 9:00.

Have you decided on a neighborhood yet?

My wife and I were up in Utica two weeks ago. Very, very cold and a ton of snow!

I am glad your new house plans are going well. I am still looking at Monteith, waiting for my house to sell, it has only been on the market for 1 week, but i am nervous.Monteith is suppose to open a new phase in a few months, hopefully i will have an oppurtunity to choose a lot then. Yes it has been nothing but cold and snow here in utica, but spring is coming.
Thanks for the info on the apt, i will also need a short lease, what are the prices there?
Thanks

Hello, I just joined, Just wanted to say Hi to all my Huntersville neighbors

I love the town, it is really a calm town - traffic though can get heavy by the Interstates. :P

We're paying $884 / month for a 2 BR / Bath. From what I've been told, the rates fluctuate based on availability and demand.
