I'm trying to help find an apartment for a woman under age 50 who is disabled. Her total income from Medicare is 1360/month. Some of that income will need to be used for food, utilities, and some part-time in-home care. It needs to be wheelchair accessible and obviously should be condusive to CATS since she cannot drive and has diminished eyesight. It would be OK if she shared an apartment with others.

Any thoughts or ideas on how to search for such criteria?

For what it's worth: I sold a house to a woman that fits this description about 5-6 weeks ago. She did not have the sight problem you mentioned ,nor the "CATS" as the house is about 15 minutes from uptown, but the $ numbers worked for her.

Check with the Charlotte Housing Authority. They used to be a clearinghouse for places such as what you describe...they may still be for all I know!

Also, many of the newer apartment communities have a small percentage of their apartments outfitted for handicapped residents. Some, such as the David Dryer* owned ones will adjust the rent according to the income of the resident. **this was true before he died. Not sure if it still is.

hope that this is a start...Good Luck!
