I'm curious and thought it would be interesting to see how many (on the forum anyway) are planning to camp out / did camp out for the Feb 18th '09 opening of IKEA in Charlotte, NC. I'll leave the poll open for a month.
As for me, No, I don't plan to camp out. And I am a bit tickled about this whole camping out thing. Though I suppose a ~$90 armchair would be nice.
Feb 18th happens to be my birthday. I've been scratching my head for a few days for a way to celebate this day.Let me think of a few other ways I can flogg myself for getting this old before I answer the question.
No way, I like Ikea, but probably will wait at least a month before going near there.
I was talking to a woman at my daughter's Girl Scout meeting the other night who planned on going "very early in the morning", I tried to tell her to stay away, it was a nightmare when they opened the first one in CT when I lived there, but she wasn't listening to me, said she didn't think It'd be that bad. I'm sure it'll be worse than I even made it sound, with the freebies, and the economy.....Like Black Friday on steroids.
Not me.
I'll probably go on Wednesday or Thursday. Yes I'm crazy. I know it'll be insane but I'm ok with that. I don't mind large crowds and I have a ton of patience.
I hope others not waiting a few weeks or months will have the same attitude. You have to have realistic expectations - traffic will be awful, parking will be an issue, wall to wall people, long check out lines etc.
Shouldn't there be an option for, "I've got better things to do with my life than camp outside of a furniture store"?
Thats the one I would check if I didn't have to prove it.
I have a neighbor who wants to drag me there after the crowds die down. I'll go for the ride, but am not a fan of their style.
Went there for the soft opening yesterday. I hope that if they get the crowds they are expecting on opening day that they get there tills sorted. None of the bar codes were scanning and the staff were typing in each code as they needed. It was chaos trying to pay yesterday and there were no queues. Other than that everyone was friendly and helpful.
oh yes and they had no catalogs either. You could borrow one to walk around though.
