We will be relocating to Charlotte soon. My husband's office is just east of Pineville. How bad is traffic on 77 south or 485 east from Pineville? Say to Waxhaw or Tega Cay or Matthews? Is he far enough from downtown that traffic won't be too bad? Where we are now, my husband was almost an hour drive home, but luckily most of it is not in heavy traffic. But we're hoping to cut down on his drive time when we move to Charlotte. Thanks

485 around Pineville is probably the worst traffic in Charlotte.

I travel from S Tryon around 485 towards Matthews and in rush hour could take me about 45 min on a very good day 30 min but that is usually around 3pm. The 45 min commute starts about 4:15 and can run up to 6pm. Yes traffic is very heavy around south blvd/pineville area.

Agreed...some of the worst traffic you'll see...all because people don't know how to freaking merge

Haha kind of a sore subject in these areas. I head north on i-77 during rush and while it's not standstill traffic through Huntersville it is extremely slow and for no apparent reason other than congestion. Oh well.

Worst traffic in town. Traffic alone can add 30 minutes to his commute - and that's IF he's lucky and there are not accidents.

There's a bottle neck at 485 and Hwy 51 that is just nuts.

I77 and I485 don't go anywhere near Waxhaw, so I'm assuming you mean the exits off of them that would eventually get you there?

Here's the thing, if he's working just east of Pineville avoid the interstates all together and live in south Charlotte or even Ballantyne - those would be your most convenient locations with shortest commutes - like maybe even 15 minutes if you lived say on Carmel Rd near hwy 51.

If you really want to try to do Tega Cay (which IS a great place to live) there are back roads he could learn to get him where he has to go without sitting in that mess where I77 and I485 converge.

His office is on Carmel Rd.... and we're looking at Matthews, Waxhaw, and Tega Cay (which I'm still not sure how that's pronounced...?) Disappointing to hear that his office happens to be near the worst traffic areas. Bummer. But hopefully he can find other ways to get home without having to take the freeways, I guess.

LovesMountains... yes, I meant the freeway exits... unless he can avoid the freeways altogether. He'll be visiting in 2 weeks, so hopefully he'll get a better feel for the area. Right now, we're simply researching neighborhoods, schools, home prices, etc. This forum has been VERY helpful!
