Anybody care to share any thoughts or criticisms of this city. I am thinking about a career change, and I would be based out of Statesville. Anything good, bad or indifferent would be helpful.
Statesville is a mid-sized sity like Goldsboro, Burlington, Morganton, etc. I don't think it has been hammered quite as badly as some of the other manufacturing towns since it's at the confluence of I-40 and I-77, which makes it a good site for shipping and redistribution.
I would say working in Statesville would beat being unemployed somewhere else. It's not a bad location insofar as being able to quickly get to Asheville, Winston-Salem, or Charlotte when there is some "big-city" thing going on, or if you want to continue investigating career growth in a larger metro.
I grew up in Statesville and it's a great little town. You can get alot of house there for cheap and still be slose to Charlotte, Greensboro, and Winston- Salem. My parents still live there and I visit about once a week. Love it there.
Statesville is like how Mooresville was 5-7 years ago. If you're willing to make a decent sized commute to Charlotte (assuming you'll work there) every morning and evening, then Statesville wouldn't be a bad choice. Iredell Statesville schools are definitely way above Char-Meck. (just about any thing is...)

The OP stated they'd be based out of Statesville - no need to commute to Charlotte.
I take exception to your comment about Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools. Yes, there are problem schools in Charlotte - something that happens in any city with an urban core of poverty.
HOWEVER, some of the best schools in the state are also found in Charlotte, so your comment is not accurate or justified.
Thanks guys I appreciate your input. I need to make a decision in the coming months I believe. I have a small daughter, still not old enough for school for a few years, so I'm not worried about that; yet. But how is the crime rate and such. Since I do have a small daughter I visited the registered sex offender website for the area, and it is huge, very huge......That disturbs me.....

Some of the schools in Iredell/Statesville school systems are better by far than Meck schools, ie Lake Norman, but not sure this applies to Statesville, especially the high schools. However it's really difficult to look at figures on greatschools.net and compare Mooresville schools with Statesville schools as they have such a different catchment area population.
Personally really like Statesville downtown and there are some lovely great value historic homes.
Mooresville still has it's downtown area with historice home which many people seem to forget!
Smaller than Statesville downtown, but still there, and Mooresville graded school district (28225) is comaparable to Lake Norman (28117 mainly) schools.
If schools are important, then I would say Mooresville over Statesville.

How much would you have to pay for a home of say 2000sq feet that feeds into one of the best hign schools in Charlotte? I wouldahev thought that one of the big problemas is rezoning and the effect that may have on property prices?
If one pays a premium for a home becasue of its school catchment area the, in such a large school district, its a bit risky.
Wheras buy in Statesville or Mooresville downtown areas and there is a fairly good cahnce that the schools won't change.
Also consider Troutman. I live about 30 minutes away but I keep hearing about that area expanding. Troutman is located at exit 42 off of I-77 which is just a few exits south of Statesville. Good luck!
I have been looking at homes, I love the fact that you can get something nice with lots of land....
