Hi, my wife, bassett hound, and I are transitioning from the Marine Corp. on Sept. 6th. I am a Sgt. and have been active duty for 5 years. We now reside in San Diego,CA and will be moving to Charlotte or the surrounding area. We will be driving a U-Haul cross country to Charlotte, so you can see the importance of any information we can get. I will be attending Johnson & Wales University in the fall. We are originally from Winston-Salem,NC and aren't to familiar with the Charlotte area/neighborhoods. We are going to have to get an apartment or rent house as soon as we arrive or maybe even before. We were wondering if anyone out there could give us information on the neighborhoods; i.e. crime rates, demographics, location in relation to Johnson & Wales Univ., downtown, shopping, etc. Any information or advice would be greatly appreciated due to our critical situation!

hey - where in w-s were you from? I grew up in Clemmons and went to West. I am here in Charlotte and live close to J&W. It's been great here. You can hit a lot of the Char -Meck govt websites for crime stats and all that. There are a lot of apartments close to my house, just outside of Uptown. There is still not a huge shopping core in the Uptown area, but many nice smaller shops and grocery stores, etc. aboud just up Providence from town. I'd suggest looking in to apartments on Queens Rd / Elizabeth / Cotswold, as this is only minutes from your school and there is a lot to do, etc.

THANK YOU for your service to our country!

I would be happy to tell you what I can, being a long time resident here. Can you first tell me how much you can spend on rent?
