Hi all, new user here. I'm from Wisconsin, but considering relocating to the Chicagoland area if I find employment there. I was just wondering what commute times from Aurora to Deerfield would be. I'll be interviewing with a company in Riverwoods this week, and before I (and the company) go any further I want to make sure I'd be comfortable with the logistics of working down there.

Alternatively, this may be a longshot, but are apartments available in the ~$700-800 range in the Northern suburbs? I was looking at Mundelein/Buffalo Grove, but i don't know too much about that area. Can anyone with knowledge of this area please advise?

Thank you.

Aurora is a long way from Riverwoods and since this is a non-direct route that would involve multiple tollways each with a whole lot of bottlenecks you really need to rethink where you might live.

If you want "cheap" and don't care about schools or fun place to hang out there are affordable options much closer to Riverwoods. Ideally I would draw a circle that is no more than 10 miles from work...

Buffalo Grove has much more desirable schools and nicer housing options than Mundelein.

So commuting is not recommended at all?

Yeah I'm looking for a safe, decent, affordable place to live around there. I'm just a single guy, newly graduated from college. It doesn't need to be the best, but enough to live and sleep peacefully.

Honestly, best case, that is 50 miles. You could easily spend more than two hours in bumper to bumper traffic every morning and even more in the evening. That is NUTS.

If you have like a pal that will let you sleep in his place for free I could see doing it for maybe a week but beyond that you would really be crazy not to move. There are choke points where I-88 has an interchange with I-294, more around O'Hare, then slowdowns at the various major roadways. Really awful traffic.

You would be better off living in southern Wisconsin and commuting to Riverwoods, instead of commuting from Aurora to Riverwoods.

Lake County traffic can be a bear. Unless you can get on the same rail line as your office, don't go much more than ten miles. Then again, most employers in Riverwoods are on Lake Cook Rd a quick shuttle ride from the station.

I'd look along the Metra's Milwaukee District North Line in places like Northbrook, Libertyville, Deerfield, Glenview etc. Aurora/Naperville to Riverwoods would be insane.

Don't move to Aurora for a job in Riverwoods. That's going to be 75-90 minutes each way! VIP in Wheeling is about 15-20 minutes away and has 1 bedrooms at $800. It's an OK complex. You can find places in Mt. Prospect and Des Plaines from about $715. But some of the complexes can be a bit spotty. Or look in Northern Lake County, say Gurnee, and commute via I-94. Should be about a 30 minute commute, maybe 40 during a snowstorm.
