Why are oak park and river forest compared together I mean they are next to each other and share a high school but I don't see much the same after that can someone please explain to me

In Illinois is not entirely unusual to find two communities with a common boundary within the same county to be referred to as a whole. For instance in downstate you'll find Bloomington-Normal and Champaign - Urbana. Very often, especially in isolated areas, the communities may share common utilities, major streets, and politics. Thus what affects one community many also affect the other.

When I see people comparing the two, it's typically to point out their differences, which greatly out weigh their similarities.

River Forest feels basically an extension of the more upscale SFHs part of Oak Park. It is most residential, and mostly SFHs at that, (and adjacent to a forest preserve) but I think they blend well together.

The two towns are inexorably intertwined. RF residents work out in Oak Park (FFC, Midtown, tennis club), eat in Oak Park, take kid classes in Oak Park (Wonderworks, Musikgarten, TKD). Both towns use the other town's park district extensively. Many people look in both areas and buy a house that fits their needs based on what's available at the time.
