I have been looking for a good 2-bedroom apartment/house/condo/townhome, etc. in or near LaGrange. It has been almost impossible to find something. Is it that there are just very few rentals, or is it that they don't advertise on traditional sites like Apartments.com? I talked to a store owner there who told me that the newer places just get picked away fast. Any suggestions for me as to how I might focus my search. Is there a realtor that specializes in rentals in the area?

I think it is mostly owner occupied there. I tried finding a place in Lagrange near the metra station too, and there seems to not be many options.

It is both true that rentals near the train stops in LaGrange do tend to get snapped up quickly AND that many suburban landlords greatly prefer to use local newspapers.

Found these 2+ bed in or near La Grange on Zillow:
61 6th Ave APT 1, La Grange, IL 60525 is For Rent - Zillow
605 8th Ave, La Grange, IL 60525 is For Rent - Zillow
4247 Harvey Ave, Western Springs, IL 60558 is For Rent - Zillow
818 Robinhood Ln, La Grange Park, IL 60526 is For Rent - Zillow
They are pricey but you didn't specify your budget.

I found some cheaper ones on Craigslist:

I would contact local real estate agent, have them do the legwork. They should also have access to MLS-listed rentals as they come to market.

La Grange is mostly single-family houses, and the rentals of these properties are often brokered by realtors. There aren't many apartment buildings in La Grange.

Avoid the area in eastern La Grange, as some of the apartment buildings near the Brookfield border are a bit sketchy.

I live in LG on Spring right next to the Metra. We had 3 rental houses on our street which owners just sold. Market is super hot and I think owners are just selling rentals to cash in around here...

Default A very strong possibility...

In real estate it is fair easier to "buy low and sell high" than in other financial arenas -- I personally used this philosophy without compunction to maximize the value of rental properties. Somehow it seems easier / less emotional than getting the same thing to work stocks...

That said, there are some "for rent" signs on apartments that are look to be in owner occupied places right along LaGrange Rd, I drove past them last night...

There are plenty of apartment buildings and town homes along the tracks in La Grange. There's a white building on La Grange Road right on the border between La Grange Park and La Grange, that looks much older, probably cheaper, and close to the station.

There are some... Many that appear to be apartments are actually condos, including many of the boxy, older brick buildings. But the dominant housing type throughout La Grange is the single-family house.
