Hey there,
I was reading the post about gas prices and several of you mentioned that gas tax is supposed to pay for road maintenance. Well than I cannot understand why the roads are so bad in Chicago!?? I know we had a hard winter, which resulted in a lot of crater-style potholes but it's May already and it's still just as bad.. And when they do patch the roads up, they are even bumpier than they were before being "fixed". For instance, has anyone seen Waukegan Rd around the Deerfield/Northfield area? I feel like I'm offroading down there.. Anyway, I'm just wondering if anyone has any thoughts on the condition of Chicago roads and why they are that way?

Two words:

Milorad Blagojevich, (Serbian: Милорад Благојевић) commonly known as Rod R. Blagojevich

Seriously,
despite the fact that other Govenor's have presided over just as corrupt a festival in Springpatch, and have had worse State revenues, at least the previous jokesters have been smart enough to let the REAL politicians make sure that the state agencies that really do spend money on important projects have at least one or two professional in charge to make sure things get done.

Idiot boy is hopelessly on to the hook "king fatback" Emil Jones and two of them are gumming up the normal function of even a corrupt state government...

Did you know that, rumor has it, that Blagojevich is Native American for "DEER CAUGHT IN HEADLIGHTS?"

Our state government is broke and Blago has no real ideas on how to increase revenues other than saddling us with more taxes to fund his pet projects and line the pockets of those who will get him re-elected.

Illinois is equal opportunity state-we have had Democratic & Republican governers indicted of corruption. Maybe Blago will follow in that fine tradition

there is info in today's newspapers about the partial funding that has been approved for roadwork..they can't agree on a capital bill! so, the only thing that will be fixed are some bridges that are really bad and a little other work. Until they (legislators) can come to agreement, there will not be a capital improvement bill to do the major roadwork and it will continue to fall apart! Blago has been raiding funds to provide "free" things..such as all of the free rides on cta, free health insurance to illegal immigrants etc. He will only allow the capital bill to be funded with gambling..a new casino license and the partial sale of the lottery. I went to the Illinois Works listening tour with hastert, state officials and reps from Kane county. Kane county stands to lose millions if they don't approve this capital bill. all of the federal funds will have to be declined for lack of a state match.

There are parts they just cannot get to for awhile. There are sections on North Avenue that are pretty bad, but its not like they can just tear up 64 to do repairs, that will do nothing but reak havoc on traffic conditions. The roads they have fixed out here in the western burbs they have done a marvelous job on (ie Rt. 38 in Geneva between Kirk and 31 and Rt. 38 between 25 and Randall).

REPLY: Lake County is an absolute shame when it comes to the roads. Illinois wants to take some lessons from its neighbor, Wisconsin. Their roads are a pleasure to drive on . It urks me everytime i have to pay a Toll in Illinois when on the expressways . Most likely one of the worse States for roads and summer construction .

Try "offroading" on River Road! It's really out of control!
