What's the area like, in terms of crime, quiet, etc?

Use the search bar. I recall multiple threads just talking about UP.

Is there anything specific you want to know?

Its an OK area IMO. A lot of corn fields but nothing special. Governors State University is there but it is close to Chicago Heights which could be good or bad depending on how you look at it.

Yes, if you live in the far south suburbs, you are "close to Chicago Heights". And if you live in north Lake County, you're close to Waukegan. Coming from the area, I don't really associate UP with the Heights unless you're talking about the college students who transfer from Prairie State to Governor's State. Most of them don't live in either town though..

Chicago Heights isn't even the roughest town in the south suburbs south of I-80. It has waaaaay too much going for it. Ford Heights and Sauk Village are pretty desolate though and have crime rates that are through the roof.

University Park is one of those areas that racists claim don't exist. Predominately black and a crime rate that is below the national average. However, there there is an apartment building on Exchange I'd stay away from. I'm not talking about Brittney Woods but the building across the street from it. And actually, UP has struggled with crime in the past but for whatever reason, it's relatively low today and has been for the past decade.

That said, UP is pretty isolated but it's not as bad as Monee.
