I know this may sound like a dumb question, but I was wondering if there is overnight parking allowed at the Tinley Park Metra Station (or other nearby stations)? I'm looking at an apartment in the South Loop and someone suggested leaving my car out near work (I have to drive around during work) during the week and riding the Metra. Does that sound sensible?

Sensible, but not practical. There is no overnight parking at any Metra or CTA lot. The only exception for the CTA is the Cumberland Station lot. As for Metra, I know in Joliet you can leave your car for a few days (Amtrak also stops there), as long as you pay enough to cover the time you'll be gone and leave a note on your windshield explaining why your car is left there. This is what I was told by the city, and what I did, with no problems. I've also called other towns with Amtrak service (Naperville, Homewood) and they don't allow overnight parking for any reason. Most Metra lots are actually run by the towns they're in. Call the village hall, but I don't think you'll find anywhere you can leave your car for a week. Leaving it on a public street probably won't work either. For one thing, I don't think it will be as secure, and most towns have strict limits on parking on streets near their train stations.
