My apologies if this has been posted, but I did a search and didn't find anything on point.

I'm looking for a good place to buy pumpkins in or around the north side of Chicago (within 5 miles of Lincoln Square) other than: (1) a grocery store; (2) a sterile corner paved lot that converts from a place that sells pumpkins to one that sells Christmas trees; (3) a garden center (e.g., Gethsemane Gardens); or (4) anywhere else that sells pumpkins indoors. To wit, I'm looking for an outdoor place sells a really good selection of pumpkins. I really just want to be able to hop in the car with my 3 year old, walk around outside for a bit, and come home with some reasonably priced (I know I'm going to pay in the city, but I don't want to pay $15 for a pumpkin) pumpkins without going through the generic channels to get them.

I know the Chicago Park District has some places, but I can't seem to find links for the locations and hours. If I have to creep into Evanston or further west (I thought that there was a Slovak Church just east of 90 off of Foster that sold pumpkins, but the website doesn't offer any details), that will work as well.

Thanks.

Good luck. No places like you seek exist unless you go to a farmer's market. Is the farmer's market on Tuesdays next to the Western train station still going on? Perhaps check into that there.

What you described is a guy who usually does the sterile lot thing and this year chose to set up shop in the Forest Preserve. Your 3 year-old won't know a vacant lot from a real pumpkin patch. May as well take advantage of that while you can. I think the sterile lot pumpkin patch that was at Lincoln/Belmont/Ashland is now Bank of America. There is a sterile lot patch right now on Fullerton just west of Western next to Dominos. Better get your pumpkin before he starts selling trees!
