Chicago Fire plans soccer dome on North Side - chicagotribune.com

I presume that this new facility will be basically their practice facility (?), but it's a shame it can't be their actual stadium for games. Going all the way to Toyota park is kind of a schlep.

I sincerely hope this venture is successful. The ownership of of the Chicago Fire and the overall level of actual sports accumen that MLS has demonstrated in running a major sports league has long been a source of consternation to those that follow the sport -- http://goo.gl/rHQslv

It really is a shame that the Fire had to move to Bridgeview. I think it was a good short-term plan to get their own stadium but long-term it gives them less potential for growth than it would if they were in the city.

There are several developers that have tried to get some kind of synergy going with MLS as many ice arenas have done with NHL and this sounds like a step in the right direction. The Bronfman_Hauptman era is already about 5 years old and the alleged billions that they have access to has not exactly made the team into anything special...
