I'll be going to Chicago with 2 friends the 2nd week of March for a job interview at NWM Hospital, and will be spending 5 days in the city near Magnificent Mile off of East Ontario to just have fun the rest of the week in the city with them. Just curious if there is anything in particular interesting going on that time of March for three 22 year olds. I'm assuming the weather will hopefully be in the low 40's by then (granted Snowpocalypse 2011 is cleared up). I'll probably make a return trip to Kingston Mines since I enjoyed it last time I was in Chicago, but does anyone know of any other decent bars with live music and reasonably priced drinks? I'm from Pittsburgh, so moderately priced to me is like 3-4 dollars for a decent beer. I've heard good things about Kinetic Playground, Double Door and Schuba's. I'm also looking for the best deep dish in the city if anyone has any insight ....Thanks in advance!

Default Music-ey?

I get the feeling that you are a live music fan. What I'm not sure is what type.

I must admit that I'm not a live music fan. But I do know of one place worth checking out. It *is* divey. It is called the hideout. Make sure you print directions, as it is a hard-ish place to find.

The Hideout - Noble Square - Chicago, IL

There is also a link to their home page, I'm guessing Friday of that week isn't booked yet.

I don't recall ever seeing ticket prices over $15. Usually cheaper than that.

Good luck!

Thanks again... is anyone a fan of the museum of science and industry? I thought it seemed interesting, especially since it was a former site of the World's Exposition.

The coal mine exhibit and the nazi submarine never get old to me, of course, I only go a couple times a decade now. I have loved those two exhibits since I was a kid.

Schubas, the Double Door, and the Hideout are all great places to see some live music. However, you will not get beer at the prices you are talking about. Drinks will be a little bit more expensive. However, this is Chicago, and the only place you can get cheap drinks are small divey bars. I like to go to those three places, as well as Quencher's for live music.

I really enjoy the Museum of Science and Industry. It is one of my favorite museums in town. They got a pretty cool coal mine exhibit, a great newer exhibit on natural disasters, and they seem to always have something cool going on.

As far as the weather in March, it is really a wild card. On any randomly selected March day in Chicago, it could be anywhere from in the teens to well into the 70s. The higher end is less likely near the lake. A high in the 40s and a low near the freezing mark would be considered an "average" March day, but there is a lot of variance.

For sure. The last two St. Patrick's Days were like 70.

And "In the past decade, March 22 has been the average first date for a 70 here"

"Divey" places are not the only places for cheap beers, traditional Chicago neighborhood bars are reasonable too. But you have to know where they are at.

The Empty Bottle is definitely worth checking out for live music.
