agree to disagree I suppose. Let's wait it out and see what the new health club goes by.
Why would a health club get to decide the name of your neighborhood?

Of course they shouldn't have the ultimate decision, but I think it will be a good measuring stick for current borders and how local businesses perceive them.

Chi-town, do you also think of Wabansia as the ultimate furthest south northern WP border?

I don't lose a lot of sleep over WP vs Bucktown, all I know is that the 6 corners in question are most certainly Wicker Park Ground Zero (outside of perhaps - perhaps! - Wicker Park itself).

The bigger issue is, businesses trying to justify higher prices & landlords justifying higher rent don't get a vote.

The fact that the Target at Elston & Logan bills itself as the "Lincoln Park Target" does not make that so.

Yes.

Wicker Park definitely goes as far North as Bloomingdale. Here's a short list of sources to confirm this: The City, Wicker Park Comittee, The Encyclopedia of Chicago, and this site.

The neighborhood boundary has been clearly defined for over a century. Realtors started to blur the line in the early 90's when Bucktown first took off.

Well, spawned by realtors or not, there's been a change. Look, I don't have a vested stake in this but the bottom line is north of North Ave is considered Bucktown today by everybody I've talked to. I live there. I have neighbors (surprise. surprise) I know people thinking about moving there, etc etc.

I'll still say 6 corners is more Bucktown than WP, but fine I can see the grey area. north of North, no grey area at all. That is Bucktown.

^There is just absolutely no way the majority of your neighbors share the opinion that 6 corners is Bucktown. Period. It's just nonsense. I've known dozens of people from that neighborhood; I lived in that neighborhood. It's crazy.

North of there is a gray area, but only Bucktowners would have any reason to care. I lived north of North and everyone on my block considered themselves Wicker Park-ians.

What change would that be? The streets are the same, right? The L stop is where it always was, etc. What have you, your friends and these mysterious neighbors actually done which transformed Wicker Park into Bucktown? Does it involve getting a dog park by any chance?

In the end, people can call their neighborhoods whatever the heck they want, there's no law stating otherwise.

But given that there's no noticeable benefit/curse to being known as either WP or Bucktown, I guess I don't see why anyone would bother.

I hear what you're saying. I guess my strong opinion comes from my building's name originally. And then from years of referring as I stated above along with hearing others do the same. What I'm saying is what's changed is the way this particular neighborhood is thought of. Why? I don't know. That's why I said maybe the realtor's started the switch. Of course, nothing physically changed. Look at my links above. Call Feast and ask them what neighborhood they are located in.

Again, you're right, of course this doesn't matter. I'm just merely pointing out that just because 20 years ago, the old timers were calling it one thing, doesn't mean that in time that can't change.

Yes there it is again, the word change. And again, its referring to the name. Nothing more. Not some dog park, or high end grocer.
