Indianapolis is the capitol of a Hillbilly state and any sophistication they put on over there is superficial; Hell, the Hoosiers even have that "God" nonsense on their license plates.

Indianapolis?

If Indianapolis is on here than so should Minneapolis. Minneapolis has by far a much better downtown than Indianapolis. You think Downtown Minneapolis would be a ghost town on the streets because of the large skyway system but no theres actually a pretty large size of foot traffic.

I conclude Minneapolis is the best "apolis" in the USA

i've had a few people here question how i deliniated the CBD's in Chicago and Manhattan and they raised valid points.

certainly in New York, where the term "downtown" originated, downtown meant southward on Manhattan where uptown meant northward. so mostly it was a direction. But since the old Dutch city of New Amsterdam as about as far "down" as you can go, downtown and Lower Manhattan took on somewhat of a common meaning.

Where I erred mostly was in stressing that core nature of both cities, where business takes place and the density is the highest.

and in that respect, I think there is more merit in being able to see Chicago as a single core and Manhattan as two. Chicago's real downtown core generally links the Loop with the Michigan Avenue/Streeterville corridor while the towers of lower Manhattan are far removed from those towering above Midtown.

When I lived in Chicago I could drink for 24-hours, too, but there was a catch. You had to know the secret handshake because the late bars were regularly raided by the police for after-hours drinking. I imagine it is much the same. The only thing that ever changed was the location.

As to Forbes, meh.... they 'list' by mining and compiling data what others have already researched. I doubt I would buy into it or buy the rag.

You want to disagree? Fine. Don't start by attacking members or slamming other cities. If you want to do that, then take it to City v City.

The fact is, like it or not, Chicago dominates the entire Midwest and genreally out-shines the other cities in the Midwest. Indy has car races and the Colts, KY has horse races. MM has Minesapolis and the Vikings. Wisconsin has the Packers, The Dells and the Thumb. Chicago is still a whole lot larger and has more to offer its millions of visitors.

Wow.

You are being extremely unfair and judgmental towards a state you clearly don't even know and who's people you clearly don't even know.

So what if they are hillybilly? Who cares what they do or how much they have? Have they judged you?

That is all.

Carry on.

You're
Spoiler
goddamned
right I'm judgemental. I don't understand this current notion that being so is bad, I mean in and of itself. It's not that one is criticized for BAD judgements, which would be sensible, but simply for making them.

Anyway, if you think my judgements are nonsense I can dig it.

If members do not like an opinion they aer free to debate it. Members are not free to attack another member for his or her opinion. My opinion on this dustup is I don't believe any member knows the extent of the knowledge of another.

One of the most interesting character I ever met was a transmission specialist who was a hunter and a car kit builder. He was also a plant expert who had a library filled with classic literature, a house filled with classic music and antiques, and a yard filled with gorgeous terraced gardens. He was just as much at home in a tuxedo as he was inside a transmission. He supported the Arts with large donations for a number of years before he died.

I spent time in Indiana. My opinion is, as a whole, it is unfair to cpmpare the state to any one single town, city, village or incorporated area. I don't think tourist areas or entertainment should be used to measure anything except personal pleasure - unless, of course, it is juried. But I do think one of this state's most unsung treasures is the Allen County Public Library.
