My wife and I have literally one day in Chicago this Saturday. How should we fill our time (we have a car)? She wants to go shopping and I don't care - as long as we get back to the Lincoln Park area by 8 PM. Thanks!

If she wants to go shopping, leave the car in Lincoln Park, take the Red Line downtown, and walk along Michigan Avenue and/or State Street.

Am I missing something or does the CTA website show that there is not a red line stop at Diversey? We will be right by that.

There is no Red Line stop at Diversey but you 3 options: you can either walk 4 blocks (half a mile south) and pick up the Red Line at Fullerton; you can hop on the Brown Line at Diversey and transfer from the Brown to the Red Line at Fullerton; or you can just take the Brown Line all the way downtown. Whether you take the Brown or Red Line you'll be getting off at Chicago Avenue if you want to do the Michigan Avenue thing. The Red Line will get you within a block of Michigan Avenue, the Brown Line within 3 blocks. Both will take you pretty much right to the heart of the State Street shopping district.

If I were you, I would take the brown line to chicago, walk 3 blocks east to Michigan avenue, walk south along Michigan avenue and hit all of the shops along the way. There is also shopping on state. After walking about a mile, I would go to millenium park, and then visit the art institute. I would get on the brown line near the art institute and head back to Lincoln park.

Good suggestions.

Just so we're clear, it's 8 physical blocks from Chicago Brown Line to Michigan Ave, or 4 1/2 address blocks - a little over 1/2 mile.

From the Chicago Red Line stop, it's 3 physical blocks to Michigan Ave, or about 1 1/2 address blocks - a little under 1/4 mile.

Both are still quite walkable, but it's more than 3 blocks from Chicago Brown Line to Michigan Ave by any measure.

My daughter and I will be staying at the Drake Saturday until Wednesday for a few days of helping the Chicago economy. Any good places to eat that we can't miss? Love going to the Bistro by Water Tower and Carmines on Rush but looking for some new places this time.

Try Bistro Zinc.

Bistrot Zinc | Chicago Gold Coast French Cuisine Restaurant

It's good and the prices are reasonable!

Really depends on what you want exactly. Carmines has a sister restaurant Rosebud which is good. Other popular destinations in the area would be like Tavern on Rush, Gibsons, Hugos etc. These places aren't really new and trendy, more like tried and true.

I would dig around yelp a bit.

Bistro Zinc is a good recommendation though
