I heard they closed down the boat house but left the beach open this year. Why wouldn't the same thing happen that happened last year? Nobody was really reporting what actually happened, they didn't close down the beach due to heat, and there are even fewer cops out there now.

Apparantly on EveryBlock, they are reporting that there several large fights there over the weekend. I was hoping to hear some good news that the city was going to be proactive and station more police there, or that the level of safety was going to go back to the way it was in the years before 2011, only to find out that "Urban Beach Weekend" is ruining everyone's enjoyment of the beach.

Sigh...

I was there on Friday, it was pretty quiet. Most people don't have Friday off so I can understand why. It must have been packed on memorial day, I was too busy golfing.

I wasn't at the beach, just drove by. It was crowded. All the beaches were going north from there as well.

I was there Saturday. Not my favorite beach, and it was packed, but other than that, it was fine.

No one appeared concerned for their safety or expressed any desire to run away to suburban Dallas.

Nice try at an underhanded jab at me, pal. No wonder people are leaving Chicago in droves; who would want to hang out with people who have an attitude like yours?

BTW I dont live in surburban dallas, I live in Uptown, which is their version of Lincoln park/lakeview...just without the high cost of living, state income taxes, flash mobs, mentally ill panhandlers, or hostile "urban youth" beating up gays on halsted street.

OK, I'll admit going there. We went on Monday afternoon and witnessed no thuggish behavior. There was also a minimal police presence (though we were a bit north of North ave, right by the pedestrian bridge over LSD.)
