Trump is more than just upscale; the cheapest glass of wine is like $18.

It is notably pricey.

So how overpriced does a drink need to be for it to be "upscale," and how much more overpriced before it becomes "more than upscale"?

In the basement of Gilt Bar - Curio - has a much more of a lounge vibe going on.

I forgot to mention, another bar that's not "downtown" but easy to get to because it's pretty close to River North (and public transit). Aviary which is Fulton Market (West of the northern part of the Loop). I think there's usually a line to get in here, I was lucky enough to be able to bypass the line, but yeah normally I think you can make reservations. The head of Alinea is behind it, which is the #1 rated restaurant in North America and I think #7 in the world..it's in Chicago.

The drinks are amazing. Expensive, but worth it every once in awhile.

Uh... why? Because a drink at a nice place like Tavern on Rush that goes for $12 will go for close to $20 at Mastro's. One place is expensive--another is really, really expensive.

Capiche?

I suppose it could possibly be of interest to someone who is footing the bill.

I was asking a question, and not a "why" question, but a "what" (how much) question. Apparently "upscale" is relative.

Not every place that LOOKS upscale costs a lot. With a good designer who can work within a budget, a space that looks upscale can be created without spending TONS of money.
