After sleeping on this, I don't know if I want a garden at all. I remember how awful it felt when the sewers backed up into my basement last year, and that was just my basement. Sewer water backing up into my living space would be an absolute nightmare. Maybe it isn't likely, but it can happen.

I personally can't imagine paying $1800 for any 2 br apartment (let alone a garden unit in Logan Square), unless it was a really large one. (Most apartments called "2 bedroom" in Chicago are more like the size of 1 br apartments elsewhere, in my experience.) Even in River North high rises I've seen decent two bedroom apts. for less than that. I really like Logan Square, but part of its appeal is that it's generally more affordable.

She says she will take 1,700, and that includes heat and all utilities (plus internet). And the garage. I just pay for electricity.

That's not that bad. Depending on the heating system you'll be saving a few hundred every month through the winter. Does it have central air and a washer/dryer in the unit?

Yeah, central air, and in-unit HE washer/dryer.

I know, but the bottom line is $1,700 is still a little out of my price range. I want to actually have money after paying rent to GO to Longman and Eagle.

Dude, you wait until a page and a half of replies BEFORE telling us it's out of your price range? If it's too expensive for you, why does it matter how nice or well-located it is? If you can't afford it then move on, unless you think you can negotiate it down to something affordable for you. Which is how much exactly?

I wouldn't pay $1700/mo on a garden in the gold coast, I don't care how nice it is.

1200 max, with utilities, and it better be PRIMO. Any more, just get a place with..windows.
