I have gotten admission to Chicago state university but i am from out of state " New York" so i would appreciate it if anyone could help me find safer place. I would prefer somewhere that commuting to school wouldn't be more than 45min.

What's your age range, price range, and type of things you're looking for? Do you want nightlife and/or restaurants? Do you care about that or just care about a safe place?

I suggest looking in the direction of Evergreen Park, Oak Lawn, as far over as Crestwood, in and around that area. South Shore or Hyde Park wouldnt be too bad either.

If you're looking for safety, these are great places to be. In fact, you'll probably be bored out of your mind, but from a safety perspective, that's a good problem to have.
Honestly, you're biggest problem there will be parking tickets and speed traps.

Actually I'm in my late 20's and looking for something within $500-600. I'm not night outing type so club or other outing options are not my priority. I really need help.

In all honesty, checkout somewhere like Hyde Park. Chicago State is on the Metra Electric Metra line (commuter rail). I think it's like 15 minutes, maybe less, from Hyde Park to 95th station on the edge of Chicago State's campus.

Hyde Park is where University of Chicago is. There's not a ton going on, but people your age are there and some stuff to do. U of Chicago is one of the top 10 or 15 colleges in the world, so it's not a party school like other schools are. It's definitely not a night life place though in general, but it's a very good community. You should be able to find a place in your budget there, or maybe north of there in Kenwood. Otherwise yeah, some southern suburbs another poster mentioned. There's buses that go between the two I think.
