Interesting since I just read that Chicago's population was down again by about 30,000 from 2010-2012.

yeah, Chicago will probably never grow again..expect the city to stabilize around 2,500,000. Growth will take a lowe-middle class jobs boom and that isn't happening in Illinois anytime soon.

The more I look at his blog the more I do not really think that is his intention. At least not with one specific city. He seems to have general ideas about how cities should work and what cities should do to improve, and he seems to really be crazy about NYC and SF. But he does not seem to have enough vested interest in any one particular city to get involved in the culture the way you suggest. I mean, you can only really volunteer and get engaged in one location. He seems to prefer to take a higher-level approach to analyzing cities.

He's really crazy about cities that are in the final stages of being gentrified. Chicago... not even close.

I don't particularly dislike the guy so much as I just don't see a need to take him seriously.

"Analyzing" on a blog is one thing, but he's not a City planner or anyone who has any concrete projects/improvements he can point to.

I think you owe an apology to the gangs in Pilsen for that comparison. They at least have a shred of relevance.
