What is the average age of school buildings in Naperville?
Not necessarily the age of the building rather how it has been maintained and if it has been updated to encompass current technology and teaching needs.
Our high school is 48 years old and it has been maintained and updated and works just fine.

But the CPS schools you listed are selective enrollment. So those low-income students are still high achievers and are quite motivated. Otherwise they would not be granted admission and would be at another CPS high school.

34% low-income
10.4% ESL (low proficiency)
STEM focus provides VOCATIONAL training for those not college bound and encourages science and math for those who are. Motivated, energetic principal who stresses to ALL students "We will prepare you for life after high school(even if you are not going to college) but you need to work to take advantage of the opportunities!"

Is this dual approach being successfully used at CPS?

To answer the question posed in the title of the thread: Yes. Absolutely. CPS students are coming from a much lower average starting point than Naperville students. It would require much more of everything, including funding, to educate them similarly.

I am not asking why Naperville schools are performing better? I completely get that those students tend to have much stronger family backgrounds and better support. I really don't expect CPS students to put up the same kind of numbers.

What I am asking is how come Naperville doesn't have a shortage of textbooks and desks and pencils and doesn't have classes above 35 students? These things are just a factor of money. If we are putting in more money into the schools then why don't we have textbooks.

Because the kids lose textbooks or don't bring them back. The return rate for textbooks at the end of the year is something like 30% in CPS.

Which is likely a reflection of parenting.
