True i was in the middle of a gang fight in the richest neighborhood in manhatten(madonna lives here) all of a sudden all these gangs coming running up from the subway with guns and i heard screams and all that mess.

I live downtown and yes crime can happen, but it's the odds of a big crime happening to you are pretty slim. Again not to say it can't happen, but yeah. I walk around alone here at all hours of the day and have never had a problem...and yes, this is my neighborhood so I am well aware of things.

I completely agree with you cali, it's over stated. ANY city in the world, crime can happen anywhere, it's nothing new. The difference are the odds, and the odds of you getting randomly jumped on the street in Streeterville or Lincoln Park are not very high. Yes, it could happen but it's not extremely likely.

For some people who live and hang around, or visit regularly in an area like Austin, Englewood, etc..yeah Chicago is pretty dangerous. For many of the people living in the safer neighborhoods like a North Center, Lincoln Square, Lakeview (mostly), Lincoln Park, Kenwood, Hyde Park, Beverly, etc and stay in these neighborhoods..Chicago is not. There are hundreds of thousands of people like this.

Now that ought to scare off all the droopy-eyed, interlopers.
"Home sweet home Chicago." I miss you.

The whole foods out here is the 3rd largest in the world and they have everything. The lake trail is awesome and the beaches are fantastic. I would love to live in this city the prices are not too expensive like LA, you have everything you want in a major city of the world, and crime bull**** its freaking exaggerated in so many ways. The transportation is the second best in the country after NYC and you can go from any suburb and arrive downtown in 15-30 min. Its so diverse, you have soo many Asians, Indians, Mexicans and the people here are so friendly. Thankyou Chicago!
cali3448893;28799411, i don't think you know what a truly incredible breath of fresh air you around here!

we chicagoans can definitely relate....think of what LA goes through. Here you have one of the world's greatest and most unique cities, a city with a vibe and a personality all its own and what do you get....people who dump on LA. How anyone can miss the greatest of Chicago or LA is beyond me. I mean...seriously.

obviously i totally agree with with the bold lettered words above. California should be fined and ticketed: how fair is it for one state to have two cities the quality and scope of Los Angeles and San Francisco.....let alone throw in the whole mix of Tahoe, Yosemite, Wine Country, Monterrey Peninsula, Big Sur, SD, Santa Barbara, Palm Springs and the Mojave, OC, the redwood empire, and all the rest too much to mention.

You simply can't get better than California!
