Maybe in a future chicago, tech becomes the new financial driver, with google buying motorola, and startup after startup and green project after green project becomes complete. There may be overhead parts in congested areas that may seriously become capped in a city wide effort to increase green space, and reduce vacant or derelict former commercial or industrial buildings into denser building nodes and new high rise apartment blocks begin to sprout up much like makati, manila, or hong kong. And there everywhere. The northside begins to fully densify from the lake west to the kennedy and past until milwaukee. Some industrial portions of goose island are re-zoned and a dual high rise apartment block now faces both sides of the chicago river around goose island. Places like Lincoln Park East logan sqaure, west town and the whole near west side had massive infill. The cta responded eventually after much debate to expand their el coverage line and created 2 cross town north south trains that run roughly along western, the "mid-loop" and harlem "outer loop". Minority jobs expand with the added cta and apartment construction from the real estate boom. Places like pilsen, and also bronzeville and south loop also see change. The downtown skyline itself adds another two dozen 500-700ft buildings, now framing south grant park extending the skyline fully past the sears tower along printers row clear down to mccormick place complex. There is also a new downtown north south people mover mostly serving the lakefront with elevated level platforms stopping at navy pier, museum campus, mccormick place, lincoln park and ogilve transportation center. It is the flagship line of the cta with special cars and extra quiet propulsion and 0 emissions. It is the only self enclosed vacumn operated elevated tube completely see through, constructed of advanced acrylic polymers that offers views of downtown along the south branch of the chicago river at 100m height. The towers supporting the new people mover system are cable stayed forming a beautiful network or state of the art architecture accenting the skyline, offering unmatched views. Chicago continues to offer realistic cost of living, convienence and greater access to middle class living. But now more interconnected than ever before, within the city, across chicagoland and the midwest, with new high speed rail connecting the entire region from minn/st paul, kcmo, st loius, indinapolis, cleveland, and detroit.

Breakthrough technology directly resulting from new battery technolgy developed by argonne labs allows electricity to be stored in an electrified nano-fluid allowing the people mover cars to be light as possible. It powers all the vehicles digital displays, lighting and motorized doors. Regenrative hybrid braking recharges the fluid as it stops. The move from heavy solid state to newer technolgy allows the semi-hybrid transportation system to become more efficient, extending range to 500-1000 miles per full charge instead of todays 50-100 miles. The new people mover system also is the centerpiece of the future of public transportation, and it now stops at elevated sky lobbies connecting dozens of apartment highrise blocks and complexes throughout downtown streeterville, sono, west loop and south loop. Most critics apprehensive at first, began to enjoy the quiet and surprisingly level and smooth operation of gliding through a vacumn tube with a commanding view of the city that gave birth the skyscraper and the showpiece of what modern architecture combined with greenspace and hybrid technology can do. Critics were especially shocked to learn how the new system is powered, by stationary biodiesel units that run on fast food oil and provide enough electricity to both recharge depleted fluid and provide sufficient electricity to operate the vacumn pumps that remove air from the tube system.

The loop only gains one 2000ft tower at the old post office complex and another 1000fter at wolf point.
Kenosha/Chicago/Gary/Hammond/Michigan city is now a metro of over 15 milllion, chicagoland now wrapping around the entire southern portion of lake michigan covering parts of 3 states. Chicago itself now the complete middle class stalwart good story of the technology success wave that also transformed other major cities like san francisco and seattle. Violent memories of former gang ridden areas have been put to rest. Chicago embraces its future as a continued solid testament to the American dream, but now also proves in an aesthtically architecturally pleasing way, that green technology truly has the power to transform cities and how we live forever... A chicagoan of this future may have a car, however close half the city relies on public transportation. the DIVVY program is a mojor success. A bike as public transportation is a daily reality to many chicagoans in the future...

I know this is fanatical but its still entertaining to read even if unlikely.
