Yep. This way the vandals and petty thieves can hit your car while it's parked right in front of your own place instead of off on some side street.

There's no guarantees anywhere, but it always worked best for me. The only damage that I ever incurred was on the dimmer lit side streets. Parking my car on Altgeld or Monticello then walking back at night is just not going to happen.
