I'm watching the show right now, and am looking forward to seeing more, but holy crap, that narrator grates on my nerves. What a horrible choice by CNN.

^ It's a local journalist originally from the SW burbs. He also produced it.

I have nothing against the guy but the fact he is form the burbs makes the whole tough guy schtick even more fake sounding and nauseating.

Hey dere lets us go down and get a sausage and brat before we hit da Bears game.

I was thinking the same thing; kinda like Jim Belushi's ''Chicago personality'' in About Last Night. It sounds like a modified Steve Wilkos; his full accent is even worse than this narrator. I think the narrator is Wilkos though.

Just read this, so it's not Wilkos. No biggie but that whole Chicago accent thing is awful.

Hahahahahaha... for some reason I thought the worst part was when they were talking about the poor kid who was beaten to death with a board.

The flat, unaffected tone suggested it was just kind of de rigeur here in Chicago... "aw, you get used to it livin' in dis sewa."

Anyway, yeah, I think a poor choice by Redford or whomever.

I told my friend this guy makes Denis Farina sound like William Buckley Jr!

Can't believe she is a principal in her 20's. My guess is she is 28/29

Schools with a lot of problems frequently have younger principals, although I'd guess she's in her 30's.

Part of it is that they just have a hard time attracting any candidates for the positions since it's a tough job that pays less than the same job in most suburbs around the city. It is also a thankless job, since all school staff are judged on the performance of students, so it can be career suicide to take a job at a troubled school that isn't likely to improve. If a school doesn't show improvement (in a relatively short time frame) the entire staff can be let go, and end up with that as a black mark on their resume. She can make incredible strides in making the school safer, supporting the students in their personal lives, and getting the parents more engaged. But none of that matters if test scores don't go up, and she and all of the staff will be let go. This is why people are opposed to high stakes testing.
