Admit it, you made a stupid statement. How do you pronounce Boston, New York or Charleston?
No, it's stupid to mispronounce the street "RAY-seen" in Chicago when the actual City of Racine is a mere 63 miles away from the Loop.

I've never heard anyone call it Rah seen. Ruh seen maybe but I've always called it RAY seen. I might be provincial but so what. What I really want to know is how De Paul is pronounced. Is it Dee Paul, or Duh Paul? I've heard it both ways. I don't care how it should be pronounced in France, just what is it here.

I've been here 15 years and all I've ever heard is "Ray-Seen".

It's funny people point out the CTA says it "Ruh-Seen" because the man who does all the voices for the CTA is a man from Wisconsin. They have him on contract to come down from Wisconsin to Chicago and do updates every three years. You can tell too if you use the system a ton, because suddenly you'll notice multiple announcements are different.

Don't argue with a cheesehead. Ever. Just don't do it.

My house sits on Ray-seen! It's one of those quirks that makes this Chicago, why correct us now?

I lived on Racine from the age of three until into my 30's. On the south-side, we pronounced it "Ray-scene".
