Edsg25 do you think your Mayor is doing a service to the city? Do you think he should get another term?

I'm in the suburbs. Rahm is not serving Chicago well, although he does a great job of serving well-off Chicagoans. But I sure think he is doing better for the city than Rauner is doing for the state.

As far as I'm concerned, the state of Illinois, for all its governmental problems, did not suffer a great divide between Democrats and Republicans. Madigan can and did work with other GOP governors without a problem (and, yes, Madigan has far too much power).

My politics tend towards being liberal/progessive. Am I a Democrat? Hell no. The Democratic party is hardly the part of the left and is incredibly tied to Wall Street and the monied interest. The Democratic party is not the party of the people.....and the people hardly have a party.

But, coming from the left, would I say there was ever much dislike for the likes of Jim Thompson, Jim Edgar, or George Ryan when they were in office. Bruce Rauner simply is not in the same league as those men when it came to cooperation and trying to work out issues mutually.

Madigan and his cronies are responsible for the current situation in this state, not Rauner.

At least your governors go to jail and federal prosecutors actually prosecute. Texas is more corrupt. Scratch-your-back conservative Republicans are deeply entrenched in all branches and levels of the Texas government.

It's hard to get an impartial judge on the case and a state/federal prosecutor investigating and prosecuting charges because they are on the same party. The state is run by the good-'ol-boy network and sinking fast!

I wonder what Patrick Fitzgerald would uncover here in Texas if he became the federal prosecutor here? Because this state needs a good cleaning. Delay and Perry was supposed to be Texas' Ryan and Blagojevich, but since everyone is on the take, there was a conspiracy to make rulings and legal rationale that exonerated them.

Really, stop complaining and have some state pride Illinoisans! At least your politicians are not hiding the debt with Enron-level accounting malpractice and diverting attention away from it by focusing on social conservative dogwhistle controversies. Your governor is really a pawn by ALEC and the Koch brothers in a conspiracy to mess up the last remaining blue state (and most successful one) in the region as an example and insert Southern incompetency and values in a Union state.

You have an Alpha-level city in your state while the neighboring states and cities in the Great Lakes region have been rusting away for the last few decades. By comparison, Texas is a sprawled-out mess with 3.5 metros to take care of.

At least Texas politicians don't tax people out of their homes and destroy the economy to offer obscene pensions to union state workers in exchange for votes.

Great post--sometimes the derision exhibited here is too much. I'd much rather be in Illinois than Texas, if such a choice had to be made. You couldn't pay me to live in Texas...

Really, than why is Greg Abbott trying to reform the property tax laws (and he is keeping a list of those who oppose him - I guess he thinks he is Santa)

Genius wants to give teachers a $1000 bonus, but the state would not pay for it and strapped school districts would need to come up with the money. It's great to give the teachers raises, but unfunded mandates don't cut it.

It is mainly in areas with a lot of Dummycraps as always in particular Fort Bend County near Houston where they are also fighting against local sanctuary cities. Most of the area have a lower effective tax rate than most places in Illinois in addition to having no income tax and lower sales tax. Also the home values are lower.
