I don't know anyone who calls them that. I think those two are probably tied for a distant last place on the list of commonly recognized highway names around here! Even the Bishop Ford gets more name recognition.

Has anyone else besides me noticed that the Bishop Ford is the only one in the Chicago area called a "freeway"? All others are either "expressways" or "tollways".

It's probably because "Kingery Highway" is also the semi-official name for IL Route 83 running north-south through much of DuPage County. It even has expressway-like features like concrete median dividers and cloverleaf offramps. The stretch of I-80 in south suburbs is called "Kingery Expressway". Which makes it easy to mix up the two.

Now, in Chicago terminology, all expressways are highways, but not all highways are expressways. Oh, the confusion!

That's an old name, but if you look at an aerial view, you'll see why. I don't think traffic reports often used that term.

I had actually never noticed that before. That is really bizarre.

At least that one, though it's a corny name, makes sense as a literal descriptor. Of course, they had that one classified as a toll bridge rather than a toll road, which is why they are legally able to charge such an outrageous toll for such a short stretch of road.

Cities only have the authority to build toll bridges. The other one was the Harlem Road bridge in Macesney Park, made free a few years ago. IPass was not accepted on that bridge.
