This is a good thing. Amazon would be a parasitic organization. They'd come, use up the resources and leave. Glad they found another home!

Mark my words.

They're looking at DC as their home. They tilted their hand when they announced the last 20 candidates list. Most of the remaining candidates were in DC.

I agree this would have almost exclusively benefited the Emerald City. But that's not much different from most of Chicago's economic growth over the past 15-20 years. Being a modern Democratic city, you can expect most economic growth to be skewed that way.

I also don't see how it would have used up the resources. It would have created some high paying jobs and helped the 13 "nabes" that I cited in another recent thread, and probably would have caused 2-3 more to gentrify.

I think overall, it would have been an economic net positive, again for the wealthier parts of the City.

You're not providing any special insight, DC is/was an obvious choice this entire process.

Also, DC had multiple proposals from multiple jurisdictions, that's why they had so many finalists. Chicago is one jurisdiction, so it's multiple locations were packaged in the same proposal. Isn't that obvious?

Just reported that Amazon will make the official announcement tomorrow. Crystal City, VA (DC) and Long Island (NYC), as has been reported for a while now.

So much for "quick" gentrification of Chicago's south and west sides.

Going to be a lot of disappointed amateur investors who poured a lot of money into those areas. That'll be particularly true in East Garfield Park and North Lawndale, which draw challenging tenants and are more difficult to manage buildings in.

Hopefully this was a learning process for them. I don't count on anything being a sure thing. Base your decision on rents today. There's no guarantee they'll go up. And for those who have been sitting on the sidelines I think there are going to be some really good deals starting in the spring.

A little like the fallout in Englewood, Woodlawn and South Shore when Chicago lost the Olympics.

+ bronzeville and washington park.

But this won't be nearly as impactful since our odds were much lower and weren't factored in at the same rate.

Default Why did Chicago not get Amazon?

https://www.chicagobusiness.com/greg...el-offers-hint

These are many of the things people said from the beginning of this thread would hurt Chicago’s bid.
