Roseland should be just above Englewood and Washington Park should be above Roseland.

Lookout Kid,

What is your reasoning in putting Uptown above Logan Square? Did you look at crime statistics? If so, which ones did you use?

I look at the CPD annual crime reports, which vary from year to year. Logan Square and Uptown are pretty darn close in terms of crime rates, so they're close together in the list.

Note that they only break things down by official Community Area, not non-official neighborhood names. So places like "Pilsen", "Wicker Park", and "Bucktown" will not be included in that data. I'm just guessing that Wicker Park and Bucktown are safer than the rest of West Town as a whole, but have no proof of that. The numbers in these crime reports are total numbers, and not per capita. For rough violent crime per capita numbers, here's a map from 2006:

I looked up the total number of crimes by neighborhood on the CPD Clearmap. These stats are pretty much good for the 2009 calendar year. Of course, I have not listed them in order by community population or number of crimes per capita. So I was visiting a friend in Cook County jail, and was comming in from the IKE, got off at cicero and took it to cermak until i hit california, what neighborhood am I going thru? Everyone told me how dangerous it was to go there, but it didn't seem that bad, even at 8pm, in a car.

The stats don't take into account who the violent crime is directed toward. So the safety level is different for different types of people. Much of the crime in Pilsen and Logan Square is directed towards gang members. As a non gang member, I feel safer in Logan Square and Pilsen then I do in Rogers Park or Uptown. I don't have the stats regarding Rogers Park, but I'm willing to bet they have more muggings or random violent crime then Logan Square or Pilsen does.

You would have driven through South Lawndale at the west and Little Village on the eastern end. Lawndale is nothing to scoff at but it is much worse further north where it borders Garfield Park.
