Chicago is #8, Toronto is #10, so it's not.

We get it, Lionel. You're against 'diversity'.

Because you're kind of a racist.

Which is cool. Just as long as we can all recognize that little tidbit.

It isn't. (Toronto being ahead of Chicago). Unless I read it wrong.

I think it was:

1. New York
2. London
3. Paris
4. Tokyo
5. Hong Kong
6. Los Angeles
7. Singapore
8. Chicago

Yes,

but it was a very interesting article. Although another poster presented some of the issues that Japan faces?

Do you mean to tell me, that you never feel torn about diversity? You never have times where it feels like a little bit of an internal struggle not to think racist thoughts?

What do I do when I see things like:

Latinos and even Eastern Europeans with their machismo, clannishness, and sexism. By no means do I suggest that this applies to everyone, I very well know it does not.

In many of Chicagos ethnic enclaves, yes you can get authentic cuisine, no question. But many times (with the exception of Chinatown and Greektown which are more touristy) most of the time people give you that look like you are from another planet. It is somewhat glamarous among males in many of the ethnic circles to give off an image of a "bad-boy/tough guy" Again, I'm not painting a broad brushstroke, I'm just saying.

I've seen in the classes I teach.

So yes, I can understand where people are coming from when they suggest that some places with less diversity may have a higher quality of life.

For me, a white geeky guy, the best places are the places where people seem accepting to diversity but in reality are not all that diverse: (Madison, Seattle, Minneapolis, etc.) where minority population are small enough that they have to integrate more, but you get to feel good about yourself because you are in a progressive place.

Actually all the way back in 1900 Chicago was the 5th largest city on the planet.

London
New York
Paris
Berlin
Chicago

By 1950 it had dropped to 8th place. I believe today it is around 26th.

ha ha, you out yourself to all as an anti-White racist and you probably HATE Japan and China for being homogenous and happy about it. Nothing is more hypocritical than the intolerance and reverse-racism of people like you! I know you better than you believe.

Back to the topic: To place Chicago No. 8 based on 'diversity and immigrants' is just laughable in its appalling lack of intellectualism or back up. Besides the inconsistency with some of the others in the Top Ten (tokyo, seoul, singapore, and hong kong) makes the premise even more shaky. Come up with a real reason for placing Chicago No. 8, that's all.
