Well, Blago is announcing today that he is picking Burris to replace Obama in the Senate.

Blagojevich to name Burris to Senate - Chicago Breaking News (http://www.chicagobreakingnews.com/2008/12/blagojevich-to-name-burris-to-senate.html - broken link)

I was hoping Blago would be impeached before he got a chance to pick a replacement.

Trying to please the potential jury pool...

Burris is not a dyed-in-the-wool Chicago guy. I think that he may be OK, but I also seem to recall that he made enemies in the Dem primaries before... He would be easy to raise money against, and he is so old that he probably won't wanna run again.

Seat warmer.

I thought I heard that the senate was not going to seat anybody appointed by Blago.

The senate did say that, but do you think that would stop Blago?

I think Rod should have appointed the cardinal. Then what would the senate do?

I'm not surprised Blago appointed someone, but I am surprised Burris is dumb enough to accept the nomination and even appear in public with Blago. I was kinda hoping Blago would do something really crazy like appoint himself or maybe his wife.

Can't Blago see what the people outside of his posse see? He has no awareness or dignity.

Blago's "posse" is HIM. He is aware of no one / nothing. Burris appointment is just odd -- Burris is not looking like a vital 71 year old, but like maybe he is not right in the head.

Anybody seen he claiming he did not know he contributed to Blago's campaign fund? NOT BELIEVABLE AT ALL, though frankly I suspect that Blago has MUCH larger contributors. This is not a "pay back" on Blago's part for those contributions so much as Blago trying DESPERATELY to look like he still has something to do as governor...

Roland is not as evil / corrupt as some, but I thing maybe somebody ought to remind Roland that in addition to the sweet perks, rocking pension, excellent title, he has to be able to "play nice" with 99 other real big egos and that is not something that he has done well with before. When he was AG he managed to stay out of the way of most of the rest of legislation but did a Blago-like headline grab arguing that Rolando Cruz ought to executed for the Nicarico murder, but subsequently Cruz was found to have been completely innocent. WHOOPS!!!

Burris has long history of brazenness :: CHICAGO SUN-TIMES :: Gov. Blagojevich (http://www.suntimes.com/news/metro/blagojevich/1355139,roland-burris-senate-seat-obama-blagojevich-123008.article - broken link)

He has that same "crazy old man" way of talking about his self like Bob Dole. UGH!!! I suspect that Roland THINKS he will be quite the "cool guest" of various inaugural events and such, as he is GUESS WHAT, from the SAME STATE as the new President AND SHOCKINGLY OF SIMILAR PIGMENTATION. Somehow I think that the Obama team is going to want to stay as far away from ANY THING TO DO WITH BLAGO as possible for the fore see able future and Roland will have less to do in DC than just about any human alive...

Everyone at work laughed when this was announced.

I'm amazed how warped and deluted Blago is being. I honestly think he has no idea about reality. Makes for good news though......and why in the hell did Burris accept this?

Even Obama came out tonight to say he strongly disagreed, wanted the senate to stop this process, feels bad for Burris and AGAIN asked Blago to STEP DOWN.

I don't get the appointment either. This situation keeps getting stranger and stranger. Why would RB want to associate himself with Blago at all? It'll soon unfold.
