Man, I filled my out and returned it within 20 minutes of seeing it in my mailbox. I have no stake in anything; I just want the counts to be accurate and such. It must be the inventory analyst in me.

I also told my friends that not taking 3 minutes to fill it out just means that people are going to be knocking on their door every day for a month until they answer the questions. It's a federal law after all. I don't know why my friend possibly thought where he registered his car meant anything.
Exactly. I received so many things in the mail regarding the census I was happy to finally get it to be done with it. I would love to know how much $ the country spends to conduct it. Think about all of the mailings, people they hire to conduct it, phone calls, yada yada yada

People were complaining over the money spent on the commercials an advertising in magazines.

Apparently, for every 1% of the population that responds, it saves tax payers $83,000,000.

Not knowing what it was? So I guess that letter they sent out a week in advance letting people know the Census was coming and to look for it really was a wasted effort.

I filled mine out the day I received it and mailed it back the very next day. Of course, I was more than a little amused by the accompanying letter dated March 15 saying "Please answer the questions and mail this back TODAY" followed by "Use the form to let us know how many people lived in your household on April 1." Hmmm... Now where did I put that time machine?

More people need to fill it out, but I think the Chicago Post Office carries at least some of the blame for the low response. I filled out my Census the day I got it and had it in the mail by 8 AM the next morning. Today I came home to find another Census form with a letter reminding me how important it is to fill it out and send it in.

This is so excruciating in light of the fact that Chicago has consistently been losing population. It'd be nice if people would return their forms so we can get an accurate sense of where we stand.

It sounds like many people have received duplicate letters of the actual questionnaire.

Extremely important for this to be entertained even if you just whip through it and get it in the mail.

Sad though, there are people who are concerned about the government "collecting information" and "invading privacy". Excuse me? Do you not pay taxes and file your federal and state returns EVERY year? What's the difference between the census and your tax returns? Oh, yeah, they have your name, social security number, address, incomes and expenses, etc etc etc.....

You'll care when the Chicago population is drastically under-counted, and we get screwed out of political representation and funding.

Those people are called morons. The anti-government conspiracy theorists have really been riled up lately. I wish they'd just set up a colony on Guam or something and get out of our hair.
