Where do you live? That would certainly factor into any answers.

Salon, hardware store, used furniture, pancakes.

This thread will become a valuable reference tool for years to come.

Salon: Aveda for standard stuff, I think they do mani's and pedi's too but don't quote me on it. Twisted Scissors for funkier cuts at good prices.

I think most people use Menards or Home Depot for hardware. The closest Home Depot to you would probably be the one on North Ave and Throop. If you prefer mom and pop shops you can try Armitage Hardware in Lincoln Park.

I like the Pumpkin Pancakes at John's Place and the homestyle ones at Mitchell's diner on Clybourn.

Try the Salvation Army on Clybourn (just south of Fullerton). Also, there are a couple good used furniture stores on Milwaukee Avenue, just north of Division on the west side of the street, I think the big one there is called The Ark.

I work in Streeterville. There is an Ace Hardware right here at 680 N. Lake Shore Dr. While they also have some kitchen utensils, your best bet would be the Bed Bath and Beyond at 530 N. State St. No pancakes though.
