What's the best kind of Dryer to get for Chicago? A gas or electric one?

What are your experiences with each? How did they affect your utility bill?

Generally gas dryer is about 30% cheaper to run year in and year out. Electric dryers are only 10% or so cheaper to buy.

Gas is cheaper to run.

Electric has compact and ventless models that can save space/give more options about placement.

One thing you must keep in mind is with gas dryers you are going to gave to pay someone to hook it up and run a gas line for it. Gas dryers still use electric in addition to gas as well.

I just put in a gas dryer. I had a gas line but I didn't have 220 so that made my decision easy. It cost a bit more that the electric model.

I installed it myself. Before this I had a 110 electric that took forever to dry. I am really digging on the gas dryer because it's so much faster than what I am used too.

I had the impression that gas or electric usually came out about equal but could change a bit year to year depending on gas and electric prices. All I know is that I wasn't going to pay to have 220 ran when I had a gas line already.

I don't see clotheslines that much if at all in the city. I've seen it out in more rural areas before and even did it a bit myself way back when.

I remember my mother doing it when I was a kid growing up. Seems like a good option if you have the space and the weather is nice. Clothes pins are pretty cheap.

awesome option for when temps are in the teens or lower!

(I kid, I assume you were recommending an indoor product of course. drying racks are pretty good and there's no worry of scorching your clothes)
