Question of the Century ( it's a new century )
HOW and WHY do posters in religious forums have so much time to waste on
the internet?
I'm talking about the posters that post thousands of words, which one must
scroll down thru, seemingly endless and this is just one post. LOL
I don't believe they paste everything they write.
But there are numerous posters that seem to have endless amounts of time.
I can't read thru all that without crossed eyes, yet in one forum ( in particular, although many do this ) it seems that everyone writes pages and pages..
And for what? No one is ever convinced even ever so slightly.
The arguements often get unruly and insulting.
Are these people housebound?
Students that should be studying but wasting their life debating in debates they'll never win.
Yeah, never win.
Prisoners ?
Okay, that I could get.
So, anyone have any thoughts on this besides me?
This is truly a serious question.
Yes, yes, yes, I am a prisoner in my own home. Have been here for many years... It has served me well.but the windows are getting a little cloudy and the floors creek a little, the shingles on the roof are turning from black to gray..My biggest fear of this prison home is that one day it will be unfamiliar and I will not recognize the rooms or the people who depended upon and loved this home..The fear will last but an instant before someone gently takes my hand and leads me into a beautiful, perfect and spiritual home that will never wear out

I wanted to answer this, but lost interest after the third line. Can you keep it a little shorter next time?
Just kidding. I suppose when you are really passionate about Jesus, or anything else, it can be consuming. Besides, I'd rather see pages and pages of faith inspired posts than know people who are spending hours addicted to internet porn.
Blue62, I do understand and Ms. Charlotte, you are so right, but...
but...that still doesn't explain how one can argue with a brick wall.
I have never read of one arguement won where one side won and
the other conceded.
The arguement always ends because everything has been said, and
now it's into repeats and everyone is just tired and gives up and
drifts away or there is hard feelings and insults flung about.
And all that sitting in front of a screen; it doesn't get to you after
awhile?

Hoorah!!!! Charlotte;
I was pondering on the best way to answer, and thought that I was alone....
Good to know that someone shares the same sentiment on this matter. It's like studying the word of God through commentaries, exergesis etc. sometimes I say to myself, Lord grant me patience to read all of this text", and sometimes I step away a little while and come back, because the prize of understanding is worth
it all.

Reason: mispelled as usual

We mostly debate on this forum and sometimes just agree to disagree
Heated arguements usually end up being closed. Personally, most of the discussions here are pretty civil and friendly. Most of us don't debate or try to make anyone believe what we do or try to change their religion..Sometimes it takes newcomers a little while to get to know the people who frequently post here, because each person is unique

You should really love my threads
they can be wordy. To sum it up. As for me it's not about who wins, but the lessons that I learn through them, You're right about the amount of time, but for some it's quality time well spent. Most often than not most of us do reconcile. You have some here that are retired and some others who work at home. and then there are some that's plain ole' bored" , some with an axe to grind, some mentally challenged(Uh)(smiles), But at least like Ms Charlotte said, they're not on some pornography site or another illrepute website, or at a cocktail lounge sipping away the college fund. at the least they are happy with what they are doing, I hope...
God Bless You

Reason: I'm the one who don't type that well
It really isn't about winning or losing...It isn't about conceding to being right or wrong.
It's about fellowship with others. Others that are like minded and others that are not. I think being on here and seeing more than one narrow minded view makes us all stronger!
I agree, some of the posts do get a bit wordy, however, sometimes your passion gets to flowing and you can't stop at just one .
I learn a lot. Not just from other people either. Looking at the opposing side's view makes me really consider my own belief. Why do I believe it? Why is that particular portion of doctrine important? etc... It has strengthened my faith, I feel myself growing bolder because I can firmly say what I believe and non of the opposition has managed to make me waver yet.
And, I value the relationships that I have made on here. It is a great place for fellowship and prayer.
Oh, I don't think anyone has said it yet, but welcome to our little corner of the forum!

Good Posts dojilynn;
Even a little rebuke is good for what "ails ya" around these parts as long as it's done in love.
