But above all things, my brethren, swear not, neither by heaven, neither by the earth, neither by any other oath: but let your yea be yea; and your nay, nay; lest ye fall into condemnation.
Of course, you aren't taking an oath when you say that.
I agree. OMG is not a good thing to say as an exclamation... or a slang term.
It's based in rebellion... (and we know where that comes from)
And kids and others of us are saying those words in total ignorance of what they're doing - thinking it's "cool". Instead they are innocently ... saying something that actually dishonors God - like you said....
The minister that was teaching on this wasn't just teaching on this word in particular
instead he was trying to open our eyes to folly, foolish talk, unbecoming of servants of the Lord;
I am still trying to work on the things that I say,
I was not implicating anything legalistic,
and this thread wasn't to be taken as a humorous one. or offence to anyone
I was hoping to get a serious discussion going, as a few posters replied;
I was under the impression that when we have the Holy Spirit dwelling on the inside of us, we should not desire to say or do anything that would offend Him, or at least to shed this light to those around us that we may be an example to or a witness
people are watching believers all the time very closely , to see how we act, talk... if we are no different than they are, I imagine they don't take our professing to be Christians to be serious... These were some of the reasons for this teaching...
especially children, or youth..
I agree with the pastor that we should try to speak the way we would, if Jesus was standing in our midst;
No one is perfect yet, until we become like Him",
This has not always been easy for me either;
I'm still very much trying to walk in holiness, I admit that I have a tedious journey ahead of me; I still say things that I rather not have said, in anger or frustration, for example: sometimes saying close to a curse word a few times;
saying shoot instead" especially when I have hit my little toe hard.
but thank God we are under grace
My prayer is that no one got offended at this thread
God Bless You

You're right. We all need to watch what we say and what we meditate on...
Was the minister teaching, per chance, Benny Hinn? I'm just curious.
does anyone think that using the phrase OMG" loosely, dishonors God
or is taking His Holy name in vain?
Just asking
By OMG you mean "oh my God" then yes I think that dishonors God and I don't think I need to answer about taking His name in vain.
