But JP2 gave this prayer in public where huge numbers were assembled who hang their faith on every word coming from the Pontiff...'Christ on Earth'. This prayer is rich with doctrine of the RCC and it seems a little naive to just blow it off to the Pontiff having a little emotional Kodak moment ! Seems like its one thing to call Mary blessed amongst all women, yet quite another to having her attend to all the hopes, fears, prayers, and needs of humanity . No other but God alone could possibly do this . Do Catholics feel we need a Mother as well as a Father in Heaven ? Thank you.
Well the pope is not as you say "Christ on Earth" the term that is used is "Vicar of Christ" This title of the pope implies his supreme and universal primacy, both of honour and of jurisdiction, over the Catholic Church.
You say "hang their faith on every word coming from the Pontiff" and you read the minds of everybody? Give me a break, it just goes to show you do not know what you are talking about when it comes to the Catholic Church.

There is ONE mediator between God and man, the man Christ Jesus! (1 Tim. 2:5).
Why should anyone need a pope when we have Jesus and we have the Bible? We do not need a "representative" here on earth. Anyone who takes such a lofty position upon himself or allows others to give it to him is a blasphemer for taking that which rightfully belongs only to God. And anyone who gives him honor dishonors Christ.
I do not say that to be cruel, but it is true. The pope has no authority--none has been given to him. He is a mere man and should not be venerated. Furthermore, look at how he lives. Jesus, the God of the universe, had no place to call His own, lived in humble fashion, was hated by others, and was crowned with a crown of thorns. Compare that to the pope and you see disparity. He can act humble all he wants; his lifestyle speaks otherwise.

Like American Christians, eh? So are you saying Gandhi was the real pope?

You said "There is ONE mediator between God and man, the man Christ Jesus! " I agree, no one said the pope was trying to do that, you read more into that statement than it says. Is it because you were taught that about the pope and your mind is made up? you shouldn't believe everything you read in "Jack Chick" comic books.
"We do not need a "representative" here on earth" most local churches have a pastor that basically represents their congregation and a person or council that represents a group of churches that forms a denomination.
What is wrong with honoring the pope? does not your bible tell you in the ten commandments that you should honor your parents? There are many people that I respect= honor.
"He is a mere man and should not be venerated" I agree, Catholics do not venerate the pope, you really should put down your Jack Chick comic books.
If the Church does not need "someone" to lead us and keep us on the "Right Path," why do we have a need for a President to lead the country??? Some presidents don't even know the right path! They just think they do.
The Pope is only infallible when it comes to Faith and Morals. His opinions about cars, restaurants, countries, etc. are still just OPINIONS!
