Again there was zero sarcasm involved. When I said do people really visit mission I I didn’t mean “I think zero people visit MS” OBVIOUSLY just that does it get a good number of tourist in comparison to say Memphis or other states in general. that’s why I asked for the numbers and you also showed me the casinos. Woulda been fine and nothing if you didn’t get in your feelings. Because that’s what it was. But with only 23 million visitors to the state many of whom are probably gamblers (typically older, less educated and therefore not in my social circle, and not posting much on social media) don’t act like it so crazy that I ask that question.
No, it was calling you out because you didn't know what in hell you were talking about. Nothing more, nothing less. It was an ignorant question, almost as bad as people from up north who ask if there are paved roads in southern cities.
And you're still making judgmental remarks about the people who visit there. Until today, you didn't even know people visited Mississippi like that. And 23 million visitors in a state with a hair under 3 million in population isn't exactly something to dismiss as you're attempting to do. I'm sure that it's far more than you realized. And I conceded earlier that other southern states such as Louisiana or Florida get far more tourists.
Folks, he's from Boston. Atlantic City, NJ and LV are probably what he thinks of before Biloxi, MS. There are many more states/cities in a New Englander's vantage point over MS. No harm, no foul.
And we get that, but the fact that he didn't seem to know that folks from the Deep South would visit Mississippi before places in his neck of the woods says a lot. And WE'RE supposed to be the dumb, insular ones cooped up in our cars and single-family homes not knowing anything about other places....oh the IRONY lolol.
Y’all are nuts. I JUST said I was interested in Memphis? How am I dumping on the south. Yes, you all put a very high premium on surface politeness and manners but are highly sensitive and judgmental -almost uniformly.. this is probably attributable to living car centric, suburban lifestyles where you’re not walking or taking public transit or dealing with people who have vastly different cultural norms than you do (at least not in most areas).Regardless of why that attitude develops, It’s exhausting and I have no interest in coddling and tip toeing around grown adults, there’s nothing to apologize for. Cmon now..me asking for numbers and having skepticism of tourism in MS is no different than if I asked the same thing (I would) about Indiana or Connecticut.
Didn’t even say anything bad about MS..I’ve never been there therefore I’m not in a position to talk. I’m openly and unabashedly ignorant on MS. Unlike people who have never been to Boston but move on 1970s stereotypes.
lol
Then dont get mad when someone else gets "exhausted" from you lack of social politeness and etiquette.
Yes grown adults know how not to say things that should not want to get a negative response from the things they say.
At least if you gonna say something offensive, then dont complain when you get attacked for saying it.
You arent in position to talk yet you make statements as though you know what you are talking about?
Nobody said Mississippi was a "huge draw" but you didn't think anybody visited the state for any reason. Just own your ignorance and accept the fact that you were taught something today and keep it moving. It's not the Southerners looking ignorant and unlearned in this discussion, that much I can tell you.
Literally said I was ignorant about Missippi. Multiple times .
What I said was it’s not about a northern bubble or sarcasm. Just that there no reason most people would know MS had substantial visitors, hence why I asked the question-someone took it the wrong way. I called southerners sensitive and then as expected I got a bunch of people tryna teach me a lesson on respecting the south lol.
Ask yourself-how many people not in MS AL LA know anything about MS and it’s tourism industry or why people would visit? You think it’s well known in Cali or Oregon or Kansas or Virginia?
Memphis is more of a draw to me because I’ve heard of it and know some of what it has to offer.
Car centric suburban lifestyle??? Lmaoooo you pulled those way out ya ass. Reaching hard to make it make sense Jesus! Lol sensitive shouldn’t come off your fingers the way you responded when people we’re talking about the perception of Boston in another thread weeks ago. Gave us lectures and brochures on Black Boston. Bought out Bobby Brown, Farrakhan and everybody lmaooo.
The fact that you keep generalizing an entire region of people who has some of the most diverse culture in Black America proves people’s point of your condescending attitude. You doing too much.
OMG he doesnt get it and he keeps making comments like these as if he knows without ever leaving Boston to even see for himsel
And we get that, but the fact that he didn't seem to know that folks from the Deep South would visit Mississippi before places in his neck of the woods says a lot. When did I ever mention Deep Southerners visiting places in my neck of the woods? This is about Mississippi and Memphis...never said anyone was dumb either.
At most I said casino goers (no matter where they’re from) tend to be older and less educated than the general population.
This response right here is that sensitivity I’m talking about. How can you not see this?

are you saying southerners don’t live a car centric suburban lifestyle? Especially Mississippi

Thats fine.
Thats not the issue. He made a statement and has made many statements about things in the South that are stereotypical, generalization and huge outdated misconceptions. Its very presumptive to speak on something as if you do and he does it continuously.
Ask questions are fine but not whats going on here
You know I don’t live In Boston right? I’ve lived in the south (kind of) for 2.5 years
The South is not ONE place that is all the same just like the North is.Living in Tallhasee is not like liviing in Charlotte, Living in Savannah isnt li.ke living in Atlanta.
Raleigh is not like living in Memphis.
Its like when I meet some black people who cant grasp that Africa is a continent not a country
