One NECTA over to you and ‘HaveNewAmes’ 202k people 87% white and 8% latino-that’s crazy, but it shows the value of NECTAs.

Sounds legit. I am a bit surprised that Haverhill (biggest city in the division at 64k and 20% Latino) doesn’t carry more weight. Those other smaller towns and cities really add up.

Lowell-Billerica-Chelmsford (358k) is 73% white, 9% Latino. Much more Asian (11%) than the other two Merrimack divisions.

People often conflate Hispanic and Latino. And yes, some of those are not even Latino.

Re: "thriving," does Boston have anything to match Philadelphia's South Philly Barbacoa? The restaurant is thriving and serves as a tangible location in which relationships and connections are built between Philadelphia's Mexican community with the larger Philadelphia community.

The restaurant has expanded and moved into a larger building in the Italian Market since the recording of this video, but the home cooking and community building continues to thrive:

Philly has better food In general than Boston but Boston has far more Latin restaurants. Just anecdotally. It wouldn’t be hard to find a thriving Latino restaurant. I can’t think of anyone I want to grab but yes I would say Boston has several answers to South Philly Barbacoa.

This is just a simple google search^

My personal favorites are:

Felipes in Harvard Square
Merengue in Roxbury
Rincon Caribeno in Hyde Park
La Fabricia in Cambridge
La Paloma in Quincy

and

Guira y Tambora in Roslindale

Melatonin restaurants can be found in every corner of the city and metro.

Yea I would think Haverhill would have more weight. But 1/5th of 64k is only 13k..out of 202k

Again this is not as close as it’s being made out to be. In every city on this list except Boston, Cambridge, Lowell, Malden, and Brockton-Latinos are the largest minority group.

Nice. However, just by looking at photos of those restaurants, especially the ones in/closer to Boston proper, I can see they have a far more Americanized ambience and even cuisine. Not that it is necessarily a "bad" thing, or that the restaurants are poor quality, but it is goes to show that South Philly Barbacoa is a true gem in producing both cuisine and ambience that replicates something out of Mexico. It is distinguished by this fact, and by the fact that it serves as great community building between the immigrant and non-immigrant communities.
