According to google maps, it's 3h, 18 min from Chicago to Indy, a number that doesn't take into account from where in Chicago to where in Indy, need to stop for gas, food, bathroom breaks, etc. As my daughter once said, "You can eat in the car, you can pee out the window, but you have to stop for gas!" At that distance, 183 mi, you ought to be able to do it on one tank, unless you forgot to fill up before you left.
its a similar distance from where i live to Indianapolis about 180 miles.
Before i go i always have a full tank and with a full tank in my truck yes TRUCK i can get to Indy and make it back with a 1/4th tank to spare.
Its about 3 hours 30 minutes from Indy to Downtown Chicago. Assuming you arent a slow poke and driving the speed limit.

I go to Chicago frequently and regularly get there in 3 hours. I also get there and back on one tank of gas, but I guess my car gets good milage.

Well my truck has a 26 gallon tank haha. so it compensates for the 15-17 miles per gallon on the highway.
Also 3 hours you say. odds are you not doing the speed limit.
But then again who does the speed limit? haha

From my house, it is about 150 miles to Hobart. That is 2 hours at 75 mph.
It is another 30 miles into downtown Chicago. If that takes someone more than an hour, they are doing it wrong.

Well odds are there will be traffic in Chicago.
Ive driven a couple times around Chicago and traffic was bad enough. Probably worse going into Chicago as those main arteries can become very congested.

Going into the Loop the best bet is Toll Road to Skyway to Stony Island to Lakeshore Drive. Any other route is a rookie move.

Yes especially when the 1-65 leads up into the 1-80 west to the 1-94!

Yes ive taken the skyway before it seems *faster*
plus the view of high in the sky on lake Michigan is priceless. However the toll aspect does suck and so does that Mc Donalds wedged in the center of the highway.
