That link was so freaking funny!

This. There are only a handful of cities that really compete with NYC (London, Paris, Tokyo and possibly HK), with London being the only true case as being superior on a majority of metrics.
I don't think this is true. Chicago and LA are also comparable--and often, compared to--NYC. Within the country and abroad.

LOL - this thread is still going on? There are three cities that serve as national powerhouses:

NYC - the country's financial and media center
DC - home of the nation's political power
LA - entertainment and pop culture hub

All other cities serve as regional powers. How can SF compete with NYC when it is not even the most relevant city in its state?

As far as the White plurality, yeah, but still:

Bay Area CSA County and Non Hispanic White Population
Marin County 72.0%
Sonoma County 64.9%
Santa Cruz County 58.3%
Napa County 54.5%
Contra Costa County 46.2%
San Francisco County 41.4%
San Mateo County 40.7%
Solano County 40.0%
San Benito County 37.3%
San Joaquin County 34.6%
Santa Clara County 33.8%
Alameda County 33.1%

Contra Costa, SF, San Mateo, Santa Clara and Alameda combined have 6.2 Million people and are all affluent counties and have no racial majority.

I always refer to the 80-mile drive from Fairfield to SJ along 80/880 when considering just how widespread the region's diversity is.

Example:
Census Tract 4432 in Alameda County is the
Vineyards-Avalon Neighborhood of
Fremont, about 40 miles SE of Downtown
SF, is 68% Asian. The wealthiest
Predominantly Asian neighborhood in the
United States.

No, but when two thirds of Blacks, Asians and Hispanics in the massive NYC CSA all cram into NYC proper one has to wonder if there's a presumption there that we minorities shouldnt aspire for more.

I feel like we are more empowered, more included, more integrated and more prominent in the region as a whole than in the NY area.

42% of all people in the NYC metropolitan area are "crammed" into the city proper.

Asians are more included for the Bay Area (and many other parts of the US) and that's pretty much it.

And more than two-fifths of all people are crammed into NYC proper. It's a megacity and very much the central node for the CSA. This simply isn't true for SF.
