I thought that one picture with the palm trees was a shot of downtown L. A. until I recognized The Hancock! I guarantee you, those palms were either potted or would have to be removed off of the beach for the winter season!
Well, I guess it's all in personal taste. I'm more of an urban clothing kind of guy/kid. But I keep my pants above my knees. I also love sports stores like Modell's and small sports shops where you can get jerseys, hats, signed baseballs, photos, etc. Chicago seems to favor those styles over LA's beach, suburban style.
I'm a bit older than you, but I'm into urban wear also. I can't stand suburban style dress, either. But when it comes to dressing like a grown woman, and looking at the most exclusive pieces of clothing available, I have to say that Los Angeles wins that one.
As far as urban wear, I don't need to leave Houston for that.

And when we sad shopping we instinctively jumped to clothes. But collectibles, sports memorabilia, antiques, souvenirs, grocery, etc. shopping seems to me that Chicago would have LA beat.

I just found a lot more things to do in L.A then I did in Chicago. Personal opinion, both cities have their pro's and con's
But I found more diversity in Los Angeles area. Plus L.A is by a few large cities. Like San Diego, San Francisco, and Phoenix. Many of these cities are different.
I love the multi-climates of California.
And Los Angeles has much more diversity. As opposed to Chicago is considered to be one of the most segregated cities in America.
All though I do love that cold, brutal snowy winter that Chicago has to offer. Love that snow, I really do. lolz
LA is not an ideal place to live if you have kids. Read the article below from the LA Times
"L.A.'s notorious air pollution is hardest on kids. The closer to a freeway they live, play or attend school, the more likely it is that their developing lungs' capacity will be reduced."

LA, of course. It appears to be more lively, have more of a flavor. Chicago just seems like a generic big city.
Have you ever actually spent any time here?
