I heard about the Chicago Heat Wave in 1995. But in Tucson, Arizona during the summer it gets about 100 with humidity. So for us westerners it is not new..

But I've been to Michigan, and it is very humid during the summer. I prefer Seattle to Chicago.

Isn't Seattle just like San Francisco but that it's not in California thus lacking in beauty, sophistication, culture, and history?

It's not just like San Francisco. I hope you're not thinking California is the only state out west with all of the above. I think somebody needs to take a trip out west and see what it's all about.

Out of the things you mentioned beauty is the only thing I might recall. One could argue San Francisco has more of the rest than other Californian cities. Seattle should also be beautiful with the nearby Puget Sound archipelago and mountains.

I did get the impression some people in San Francisco are pretentious. However, in my opinion most certainly not sophisticated if compared to most large European cities I've lived in and visited. Opinions will differ as to what is considered sophisticated. The history of San Francisco is young unless you include the Spanish late 18th century settlement. Cultural opportunities can be found everywhere. You can only evaluate if the culture is to your liking.

Beliy Plashik - Yes, that heat wave was pretty miserable stuff. However, what you have to understand about the difference between Arizona and Chicago is that in AZ it is assumed that all buildings have air conditioning, in Chicago that is not the case. Sadly, those who were affected the most were elderly people who lived in impoverished and dangerous neighborhoods.

Seattle is truly a beautiful city, I have some friends who moved out there from here (Chicago) and couldn't be happier. I prefer where I live for many reasons, but I love that they live out there so I can go visit them. I always have a good time when I do, and the natural beauty/scenery is amazing. Not to mention, it is much warmer in the winter.

..oh, and Seattle has the coolest public library I've ever seen.

Did I just see the words "Yuma" and "humid" together? LOL Uh, I think NOT. Yuma is as hot and dry as they come.

Its hard on most human beings to live in constant grey and rain for months with no let up in sight. I lived in the PNW (Portland) spent alot of time in Seattle, then moved to the Chicago area/ I like the changes of season. Just me,different strokes.
