These are all awesome photos. Thanks for sharing. Definitely need to get back to that city soon. One of my coworkers (who's originally from Canada) is there again for a project - I'm kind of jealous of him. It's funny because I have another friend who went to grad school just outside of Toronto and moved to Chicago last year. She said she didn't like it but loves Chicago. It's always interesting to learn about various people's preferences.
No city is going to be everything to everyone... I guess that is the beauty of everyone having different tastes and preferences. In either case, I've been to Chicago and am obviously from Toronto and there are elements of each that I prefer over the other. Same could be said of S.F and D.C as well (I've been to all four cities)... now if we just amalgamated the four - that would be THE best city in the world

Yeah I agree - no city in the world is perfect, even for one person. Chicago is not perfect to me, nor are New York City, San Francisco, Rome, and Istanbul (my other favorite world cities, right now). But the thing is that they are more than "good enough." I always enjoy seeing cities improve themselves too - that is fun to watch.

Istanbul is absolutely my favourite city in the world to visit... one will not understand until they actually go there and wander the streets and get lost in its history, vibrancy and urbanity.. However, I'm more than sure I would not want to pitch my tent there and call it home.... Same thing with Rome.. Large N.A cities like NYC, S.F, Chicago, Toronto etc still make a very compelling case for being among the best places to actually live in.. I could see myself living in any of these cities..

Ha seems like we are very similar in where we like to go..I'm with you on the favorite city to visit in the world thing. I agree about NYC, SF, Chicago, Toronto - some of the best places in the world. LA is not that far behind either IMO, and neither are DC, Boston, or Seattle.
In fairness to me, I never compared Toronto's dining to S.F and Chicago.. I could care less about Michelin star restaurants to be honest.. Where I got competitive was when Montreal was brought up as exceeding Toronto where I believe T.O makes a compelling case over Montreal - at least by numbers and rankings in Canada. As I mentioned before, for decent mom and pop type diverse food Toronto is just fine. The diversity of its food is reflective of its overall diversity. Does it have as many star chefs or restaurants like S.F or Chi absolutely not but how many times do most any of us eat at these places lol.. Having said that the city is an emerging spot so is one to watch if food flicks your bic.

Numbers are part of it too.. The U.S has 10 times more people so you are going to get more of everything good and bad really imo.. Generally speaking, Canadians do eat out less than Americans but Canadians also travel Internationally more as well so it could be just different lifestyle goals..
The people who eat at fine dining and chef driven restaurants are typically very well travelled and have enough disposable income to do both on a regular basis. We are not talking about folks that eat at your local Golden Corral here. Fine dining restaurants sprout up to attract a certain demographic, along with business (expense account meals) and leisure travelers to your city.

Fair enough and everyone is entitled to their preference in cuisine so lol.. I provided more than just subjective opinion hence my link (which really isn't definitive either). Besides I'm well aware of your affinity for Quebec
