KC is actually beating St. Louis for the most homicides in MO so far this year (20). Let’s see if it holds

Except not. This is simple math.

St. Louis had 8 homicides in the first 3 days of the new year. If you subtract that from the current total (16), then you're left with 8 homicides after the first 3 days of the year in St. Louis. At a population of 302,838 people, that's a rate of 2.64 per 100K. Chicago with 52 homicides and a population of 2,705,994 has a rate of 1.92 per 100K. That's still above Chicago's rate even if you remove half of its homicides this year (the first 3 days of the year).

Chicago is at close to 60, so the homicide is right now over 2/100k, but you're right. St. Louis is, alas, still higher. I think I was using 2.1 million as Chicago's population, which is obviously wrong.

The last time Chicago only had 2.1 million people was 1910. The Chicago Sun Times has 55 homicides on record - and while Sun Times and Tribune are usually a few higher than the official because they count self defense and police related homicides which the FBI UCR omits for every city in America - it's still better than HeyJackass.com.

Hah yes - thanks for catching that. Did not mean to include Houston. I don't have an accurate source for the number yet.

Feels like Philly's only had about 10 in the last 3 weeks. Meanwhile, 11 minors are shot in Chicago in a 48 hour period. Smh

I just saw in the 2019 thread someone posted a list on February 23rd that showed Atlanta at 12 and Charlotte at 18. Both are at 8 right now. Atlanta ended 2019 with 88 homicides and Charlotte 107. Maybe they can both end this year under 80? 2019 was Charlotte's worst year since 1993.
