Remote work could have an impact. Overall lots of tech workers moving to Texas. Whites in tech seem to prefer Austin.

Frankly put, Indian-Americans are not a particularly urban group. They prefer suburbs. There are some exceptions in NYC, but even then New Jersey is the hotspot for Indians, not the city.

For example, the city of San Francisco has 8,968 Indian immigrants but the whole metro area has 148k Indian immigrants. The city of Dallas has 6,982 and the city of Fort Worth has 4,694 despite the metro area having 143k Indian immigrants. Chicago does better at 23,490 Indian immigrants but again there are 140k in the metro area.

Given that Indians overwhelmingly prefer suburbs (or at least suburban areas of cities), why they are flocking to DFW becomes much easier to see. Overall and to be frank, the suburbs of DFW have a better reputation and are viewed as superior to the ones of Houston especially in the Indian community. Hell the suburbs of DFW arguably have the best reputation in the US right now. Thats a huge reason why people of all kinds are moving there in droves.

Ive heard of commercials being run in India that advertise Frisco and Plano and that the land there has been consecrated for their spiritual well being.

Another interesting thing is that, while Houston has more Indians than Atlanta, Atlanta now has a higher number of foreign born Indians.
It might be different in NYC and Chicago but in the Bay Area all Indian enclaves are suburban. No particular concentration in the city of SF.

I didnt include the Bay Area in the below because the boundaries have changed making a YOY comparison impossible.

All numbers represent growth or decline between 2018-2019 and these numbers are foreign born only. Domestic born Hispanics are not considered in this post. I used Mexico for the major Mexican MSA to determine their population losses or gains but also balanced with Cubans in Miami, Salvadorans in DC, and Dominicans in NYC. I thought the MENA population would be higher in DC. When I lived in NoVa there’s seemed to be tons. I’ve also worked with many Arab Americans and Afghans.

MENA wouldnt cover Afghanistan since they are counted under the Asian population.

So I thought a good idea would be to see how much each foreign born group represents of the total immigrant population. Some places have their foreign born populations dominated by just one or two immigrant groups while others have a plethora. To save time on this, Im going to piggyback of Montclair18's data from another thread. This one is per CSA not MSA, but we since were isolating just foreign born populations, Im ok with using it for this.

Ill divide it up into two posts. The first will just have the data and the 2nd will the largest immigrant groups broken down as a percentage of the total immigrant population. Im only going to focus on the larger CSAs, not this whole list.
